INSIDE THE COCOON
2025
Acrylic on canvas, 60” x 38”
This work was created over the course of a year. Its essence reflects the emotional, mental and physical turmoil I experienced due to relationship, health, and professional changes. With each fold in this inkblot, the fabric of my life transformed. I had to adapt to the changes in my physical reality, but the imprint of those shifts made this work shift as well. Other people will only see the surface markings, but to me, I see the growth in my identity, shedding of old beliefs, and vulnerable reflections embedded within its foundation.
This process became an exercise in gratitude for the nonsensical moments that are only experienced from inside the cocoon. A meticulous mirroring of energetic transmutation, captured in the outlined forms of fantastical spirits. Every splotch transformed into a version of myself that is or isn’t visible in its final rendition. What matters is that I’m grateful for it all. Even the forms that are no longer visible, both in this work and in my life.
